Simply stunning. Caye Caulker is where you wish you would get stranded for years with a beach ball named Wilson. The crystal blue water and reggae vibe made Caye Caulker the perfect relaxation destination with a hint of party. I’m in love.
How to get there: water taxi
From the airport we took a taxi to the dock where the bus and ferry’s leave from. This cost us $25US together but we only had $18 as none of the ATMs worked so he basically had no choice but to accept that. We then gave our luggage to the water taxi people and purchased a return ticket to Caye Caulker. Your return ticket is cheaper than buying two singles and it’s valid for 3 months and can be used at any ti e so you aren’t locked in to a specific time to come back… Easy and worth it. The water taxi took about 45 mins and is sometimes bumpy and is very sticky but pretty easy. The return ticket cost US$25 each.
Accommodation: Seaside Cabanas
So we decided to splash out for Caye Caulker as it is the only place like this that we are visiting on our trip. While it is expensive to stay here… I’d pay it again. If I visited the island another time. It is as close to luxury as you’ll get here… The rooms were very clean, air conditioned, clean ensuit, a tv, a fridge and very comfy beds plus storage! There is a big pool in the middle of the common outdoor area with amazingly comfortable deck chairs that look out to the crystal blue ocean waters. Everything was perfect and you even get free breakfast that consists of fresh tropical fruit and pastries.
What to do:
EAT: the food here is so fresh and cheap and there really isn’t that much else to do so eat up and enjoy. Make sure you eat lobster… We were to,d that lobster is cheaper than Pizza here because the ingredients are much easier to source. We got our lobster from Roy’s. We payed $35 Belize which is more expensive than others but it was a big lobster with a delicious garlic butter sauce and came with 2 sides.
Special mention goes to Au French Corner: a cute little French place that serves crepes and breakfast style food along with delicious juice and smoothies. The service here was lovely and attentive. We ordered the smoothie of the day and a Nutella and banana crepe… YUMMMMM. highly recommended for something sweet on the island.
The lazy lizard: here you order the world famous lizard hue which you assume is going to be some absynth tasting thing but it’s actually a bright green slushy style drink… Perfect for the hot days (so everyday). Everyone comes here to party and swim I. The split which is where the two halves of the Island are split in half. The vibe is good and the scenery is even better!
Snorkelling: We went with “” and had a good day. We went with the full day tour as the Manatees were supposedly in season but I think we got jibbed as on the day we were out on the water and told that the Manatees weren’t there…so maybe check if it’s their season first. Other than that we had an amazing day swimming with fish and reef sharks. We even got to pat the reef sharks which was my favourite part. The water was stunning and the views from the boat just Amazing! Highly recommended.
