Buenos Aires

“The Paris of South America”. I thought this was going to be a joke but BA is nothing like anywhere else in SA and reminded me so much of Europe. It was kind of nice to be somewhere so civilized again. There really isn’t much in the way of touristy things to see but BA is more about  experiencing the city for what it has to offer.

Accommodation: Milhouse Hipo Hostel

The newer of the 2 Milhouse Hostels and definitely the smaller of the 2. What I liked about Milhouse is that they joined the 2 hostels for parties/activities etc. so you met twice the amount of people. The biggest let down was the parties at the hostel though… sometimes it felt like an awkward school disco and there were so many guys there just praying on girls. We ended up getting a private room because by that stage I just needed a room without strangers and to lay all my shit out everywhere. Our room was great, bed was comfy and the bathroom was really clean and the shower was AMAZING! You truly learn to appreciate hot showers when traveling central/South America. The hostel is located in the city centre which is cool however all the fun really is in Palermo so if you don’t want to spend $$ on taxi/uber then I’d suggest staying in Palermo.

Things to do:

See a Tango show: unfortunately I sliced my foot open and was out for a day or 2 so I didn’t get a chance to see one but everyone says they are incredible. Quite expensive but you can get a show with drinks and dinner and it seems like the best idea.

Drink wine: there are few places in SA that wine lovers can enjoy a good drop on the cheap but BA certainly has it! There are loads of local wines that are delicious.

Eat meat: go to an Argentinian steakhouse and eat all the meat and drink all the wine

La Boca: an older area with lots of pretty colours etc. If you stay at Milhouse they offer a La Boca Walking tour and take you to some massive famous soccer stadium.

Palermo: the biggest area in Buenos Aires. This is where all the nightlife is so you’ll likely spend a lot of time here at night but it also has beautiful (and expensive) boutique shops and nice cafes. There is also the rose garden here which we saw before the roses had bloomed but it was still lovely.
