Florianopolis (Floripa)

Such a beautiful place but a big reminder that Brazil isn’t all high temps and sunshine. We went late September and had 1 amazing day but 2 cloudy and actually really cold days which made us leave a day early! I’d love to come back here in the summer because it’s such a fun place with a great vibe and even better beaches!

Accommodation: Barra Beachfront Hostel

A cool little hostel located a stones throw from the beach. You could stay closer to the action in Lagoa with restaurants and Bars but staying in Barra means you are so close to the beach, which I prefer. The hostel staff are all really nice and were so understanding when we wanted to leave a day early because of the weather. They helped us book our bus to Iguazu and let us use the computer to organise our Argentina visa.

Things to do:

Relax: the beach is quiet and beautiful in Barra and we spent the nice weather day just laying on the beach trying to recover from Rio haha. The restaurants along the beach are quite nice and you can eat cheap and good Açai. We ate at a place called Deck 6 on the beach and for AU$36 got a huge plate of salmon fillets, chips, rice, and salad. It tasted delicious and you eat it right out in the beach.

Lagoa: this is a bus ride away and has lots to eat and shop. It’s located by a huge lake so people like to go there on warm days.

Injeção Eletrônica: coincidentally this electronic music festival was on when we were there. The music was really good and it’s an open bar! The lines aren’t even long for the drinks so you pay $40 to get a ticket and $4 for a cup that gives you unlimited drinks! We had a great time here.
